Helping a Dad Rescue His Child

“I love what you guys are doing,” the man said.

I paused, confused. While we do often meet members of the public who agree with what we do, I did not expect it from this man—because he had just exited an abortion facility.
Before I could say another word, he said, “I want to keep it,” and suddenly it all made sense.

I asked the young father what was preventing him from keeping his baby, and he responded that it wasn’t his choice. He said he and his girlfriend had just had another baby a couple of months before and that he’d advocated for adoption. But, pointing to Founder’s Women’s Health Center—a Columbus, OH abortion center—he said, “This is her option right here.”

Mark Harrington’s wife Paula, who was also counseling, asked if his girlfriend was depressed. He answered affirmatively. She said the abortion could add to her depression, and he said, “I believe it. It’s got me depressed already.”

We encouraged him to act, provided multiple resources, offered to walk them to a free Pregnancy Resource Center, and told him we would pray.

As soon as he walked away to his car, a slick black Mustang whipped into the parking lot. The abortionist stepped out of the car, walked to the building’s door, and we knew that there were precious few minutes left to save the baby’s life.

I walked to the young man’s car to offer one more resource—post-abortive help for men in case I wouldn’t see him afterward—and saw him reading our other pamphlets while typing on his phone. I assume it was his last effort to rescue his baby’s life by convincing his girlfriend to exit the building.

Walking away, we continued to pray for the young man, his girlfriend, and the baby who could be dying any minute.

Then, half an hour later, I saw him meet his girlfriend at their car. I approached nervously. He looked up, gave me a thumbs-up, and said, “She couldn't go through with it.” Relief was evident in the smile spreading across his face.

Please join us in praying for this young family!
